Super Dad

My Sister Deb found this idea online for Father's Day, so I borrowed someone else's creativity, stockpiled Doug's favorite hero snacks, printed clever labels, and with the girls' help, put together a mega-stash of goodies fit for Superman...or...Super Dad.

Here's Doug basking in junk-food glory, surrounded by the five little people who love him best.

Wasn't the most healthy gift - but the girls were pretty hyped about their Dad being a Super Hero. They already believe he's magic (he can fix anything). And now they're POSITIVE he can see through walls every time he eats his x-ray vision M&Ms.

I took a few minutes during our gift prep to help the girls understand the role/powers of a super hero (we've spent more time on fairies and princesses than we have with Batman and the Incredible Hulk). After our crash course I asked them a series of questions. Here are some of their answers. Verbatim.

What do you think Daddy’s super hero costume looks like?
Eliza: Like Batman. It would have a cape and it would be black and yellow.
Ali: Blue and red. With a mask.
Sami: Purple with orange. He has to have gloves and boots. A red coat and a black helmet. And some glasses – purple.

What does Daddy protect you from?
Eliza: Bad guys.
Ali: Bears
Sami: Snakes.

Is Daddy afraid of anything?
Eliza: Nope.
Ali: Yes. Bad Bears.
Sami: Yep. Bears. And snakes.

What is Daddy’s best super power?
Eliza: Disappearing anything. Dad can disappear our mamies. And he can fight away bad guys. And he can look through walls. I think Daddy can fly.
Ali: He’s magic. Because he fixes things.
Sami: He can make fire. And put the garbage out first. He can do some magic. He can fly the birds out the window.

How does Daddy get around when he’s a super hero?
Eliza: He doesn’t drive anything. He can fly and then makes his clothes back like they were. And when he’s done getting his things done, he can get back in his super clothes and fly away to our house.
Ali: He drives a blue car.
Sami: Some bad guys came and locked him up in a cave. With some bad bears. With some keys. But he got a sword out and he hit the bears and untricked the cave with purple keys.

How does Daddy help our family when he’s not doing super hero work?
Eliza: He helps the boys and he works hard for us.
Ali: He locks the doors. He cooks food.
Sami: He gives me purple socks and pretty shoes and a pretty dress.

How much do you love Daddy?
Eliza: I love him more than the stars.
Ali: So much when he’s silly.
Sami: I love him about as much as pennies.

My favorite word - untricked. My favorite idea - Doug can fly. My favorite line - (From Sami) "I lve him about as much as pennies." Big money to her. (I might pay a few dollars for you hon!) My favorite image - Doug hitting bad bears with his sword so he can escape the bad guy cave with his awesome purple super-keys.

Happy Father's Day Doug. You're all that...and then some. Our hero!
