How to Find Comfort in Times of Trouble

April 23, 2015 7 Comments

It’s been a while since I’ve written about my Mom. New symptoms and challenges have developed. Two weeks ago, a sensory seizure left her without the use of her left hand, a loss of function similar to a stroke. Recent imaging studies are helping us understand what needs to happen for her next.

I am writing about it at Segullah today. About comfort, the psalms, and inner storms.

Mom, I know Jesus will calm the waves you feel. He is not sleeping in the hull. He is listening to you, and loving you. You are in his boat. You are in his hands. Your bravery makes us believe no matter what happens, it will be alright. And I’m with Dad. There is still time. Still much for you to do together. I love you.

Cath

Five children in four years, including two sets of twins, brought new meaning to Mary Oliver's earnest question. Our little people aren't so little anymore, but life is still wild, still precious. And this is my meager attempt to hold on, make it last. I love Doug, running, hiking in the mountains, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, the edge of an ocean, and connecting with you here. So happy to have you along.

Oh Cath, such a heart wrenching post to read (and obviously to write). Love to you, your parents, your family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I've come across this recently, and thought you may appreciate it… https://radarradio.net/episodes/songs-from-psalms-episode-3121

Dear friends, some of you I know personally, some I don't. But thank you. Thank you so very much for your kindness and outreach as my mom has struggled to move down this new path. Your compassion and words have brought me to tears again and again and again. Much love.
